There are numerous possibilities of wonderful walks. The house sits in its own land so local walks across the fields are possible.

Offa’s Dyke
Take the road from Presteigne to Knighton and where it crosses Offa’s Dyke park car and walk

Mortimer Trail
From Ludlow to Kington goes very near Upper Mowley

Titley Loop Walk – handouts should be available on desk in hall.  Passes up behind Stagg Inn to the top of the hill across fields.  Takes less than 2 hours.

Hergest Ridge
Can drive up behind Hergest Croft Gardens (Kington) and can walk over the hill to Gladestry where there is a pub- about 2 hours each way.

Judges Lodgings in Presteigne- old lodgings including cell and courtroom.

Berrington Hall built by Holland and landscaped by Capability Brown.  Was lived in by Admiral Lord Rodney. National Trust Tearoom/ cafe

Croft Castle- good situation and can walk up behind to Iron Age Fort- Croft Ambrey. National Trust tearoom/ café.

Old Radnor- very special church with a pub next door (The Harp) for a basic lunch

Wigmore Castle- picturesque former stronghold of the Mortimer family


Ludlow- exceptionally beautiful local market town with good castle and antique shops. Roy Strong’s favourite and Betjeman called Ludlow the perfect historic town.

Hereford- Cathedral and Mappa Mundi Exhibition and Chained Library

Hay – numerous bookshops and scene of Hay Festival in Summer


Sensational Golf Course at Kington – highest golf course in England on Bradnor Hill
Can usually book tee off time on day of calling or next day.

Kington is a very attractive local market town.  

Ludlow (smarter) and Leominster are good for antiques

Bicycling at Petchfield Farm five miles south of Ludlow.  Can follow secluded country lanes for example from Elton to Leintwardine (where there is a good pub- The Lion Hotel).
